A rare solar eclipse will occur in Indonesia.

Super rare solar eclipse, hybrid solar eclipse. This phenomenon will decorate the skies of Indonesia on April 20, 2023, or coincide with 29 Ramadhan 1444 H.

As the name implies, this eclipse is a mixed eclipse, when an annular solar eclipse and a total solar eclipse occur in one event, depending on the location of the observer.

"This is because the Earth-Moon distance changes when the Moon's shadow falls on the Earth's surface, so that there are areas that experience a total solar eclipse and other areas experience an annular solar eclipse," said Andi Prince, researcher at the Space Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency. (BRIN), in an official statement.

Andi added, hybrid solar eclipses occur only 596 times in 5,000 years or an average of 8.8 years. Sometimes a century of hybrid eclipses occur only once, or not at all.

The last hybrid solar eclipse appeared in Indonesia in 1807. After crossing the Indonesian sky as of April 2023, a hybrid solar eclipse will be observed again in 2049.

The ring solar eclipse itself occurs at the beginning and end of the eclipse path or the penumbra. Meanwhile, observers in Indonesia themselves will get a total and partial eclipse.

The penumbra total solar eclipse will sweep across parts of eastern Indonesia, from Timor, the islands in the Banda Sea, parts of Papua, to Biak. The rest, including Jakarta, can only observe a partial solar eclipse with a different sun cover
